I've often thought about moving to Phils...for obvious reasons.....and wonder if there are members who have tried it, or still live mostly permantlently there....I know lots of Taiwanese and Sth Koreans living in Zamboanga City, and Gen San in Mindanao...but most Americans and European guys stay up North..is it because security or facilities are better the closer you get to Manila?

I don't have permanent residency in the Philippines but this is where I call home. I am technically a tourist, as far as immigration are concerned. That notwithstanding, this is basically where I have hung-out for the last 16 years, whenever I am not working away from "home" on board ship...

Quiet a few of the Brits that I work with are out here - either as residents or, like me, semi-permanent tourists. Most of them seem live in the Olongapo/Subic area. There is another guy in Digos City, Davao Del Sur - another in Puerto Gallera and one more in Dumaguete. I rent a place in the province of Cavite, (just South of Metro Manila) - but I don't know of any of my British colleagues that live anywhere near Manila?

I'm not sure what, if anything, I can offer you in terms of local knowledge but if you've got anything you'd like to ask me - then fire away!!

I have a mate here who tells me a wealthy abalone diver he knows just built a home in Puerto Galera..I believe he spent about $250,000 US ....he's 57 and very fit of course being a pro diver.
He married a stunning pinay about 26yo and apparently shes extremely intelligent and has a strong business mind.
He has a permanent home in Melbourne, and spends about 6 months in each home at the best times of the year.
His missus owns the home in P'Galera of course....which goes to show how smart she really is!!
Aparently there's a small contingent of baby boomer Aussies in that area.

'Sounds like he has got it made - and I sincerely hope that it stays that way!

Regarding middle-aged foreigners marrying stunning, young (and albeit intelligent) Filipinas) - I do worry about that...

'Dunno... Been there. Done that. And I know and have heard of enough foreigners who got badly stung.

I also know at least two British guys who have been happily married to Filipinas for many years now. But in both cases, their very charming wives would be the first to admit that they are not exactly world-class Beauty Queens! And both had good jobs before their husbands met them. One was an (OFW assistant nurse in the UK) and the other one was doing OK as a waitress in a perfectly respectable restaurant in Manila...)

I guess it could be alright to marry a stunningly gorgeous Filipina if she is well-educated, has a good job or her own business already - and she is from a comparably wealthy background? And I would never put my property in her name. If she was good to me and took care of me when I was old and suffering from Alzheimer's disease or something - I'd be more than thrilled to be able to leave it all to her in my will.

(But I'd be careful to keep that last part secret from her - just in case she decided to bump-me-off early!)

i believe he met this pinay in Puerto Galera when he was on a diving holiday..she was only 21 when he grabbed her.
He cant own any property (can he?) there so thats why the house in her name..
I guess if he's been rooting her brains out for 5 years its probably the same as spending $250,000 on hookers...at $50,000 a year..not hard to do that here, not hard at all.
My old mate says she is a dead set movie star...but he was surprised when his mate said he was going to marry her.
Maybe if he marries her in Phils and gives her a home then she cant use Australian divorce laws to claim over half of what he owns here..I reckon thats the most likely explanation.
Just so you know, an abalone licence here is worth millions..just the licence.
They, the divers are often contracted to do deep sea repairs on oil and gas rigs and man, they charge a LOT for their services to the rich oil and as companies.
I keep asking my mate why he doesn't do the same thing...he just says a buffet is better than a set menu...but also he cant be fucvked training a young woman to live life they way he is used to. That made lots of sense to me.
I know 2 smokin hot chicks in Quezon City...both 35yo, both tall, 5'5" and 5' 6", both have young kids and and self supporting ..one is a muslim...she hasn't had sex for 8 years!!..I really like both for different reasons, but my mate has talked me out of marrying either of them....time will tell.
